A new coral nursery is under development! The Midway Nursey is located north of Haulover Inlet and managed by Frost Science, filling a gap between the University of Miami and Nova Southeastern coral nurseries. Here, we will harbor and care for fragments of coral to be outplanted in the future.
Nurseries are important tools for coral conservation. They act as a temporary shelter where corals can adjust to natural ocean conditions and continue to grow while still receiving protection and human care. After some time in the nursery, the fragments will be outplanted to help restore natural reefs.
