Non-native, or exotic, species can have detrimental impacts on ecosystems, economies and human health. They can introduce new diseases and parasites to the reef and without natural predators to control their populations, exotic species can also prey on or outcompete native species, altering reef food webs.
In partnership with the US Geological Survey, we remove non-native species from Florida waters through the Early Detection and Rapid Response program. As of 2019, Frost Science has removed 14 individuals from nine species . Most individuals are live collected by divers and many are currently on display in The Dive.
