UBMS targets students who represent the first generation in their families to attend college, with the goal to establish a culture and support system for students that reinforces personal academic expectations as well as a college-going mindset for both students and their families. Throughout the UBMS academic year, students have the opportunity to attend local college tours, and during spring break, juniors also attend a weeklong, regional college and university tour throughout Florida, Georgia and Alabama. College visits include campus tours, presentations from science, technology, engineering and math departments, and access to multicultural and diversity support offices. The goal is to provide students with a college experience with like-minded peers, as well as access to and understanding of the supports in place to help them pursue and be successful in their college careers.
