Precious Johnson is responsible for leading the cultivation of funding from foundation, corporate, and government grant makers in her role at Frost Science. Johnson was most recently at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA), where she served as a grants officer, raising funds for operating support, exhibitions, capital projects, and a portfolio of Asian arts and educational initiatives. Prior to that, she held roles in research and institutional compliance at various organizations, including the Georgetown University Medical Center, the Erikson Institute, and Friends of the Children.
Inspired by the work and philanthropic legacies of Julius Rosenwald and Peggy Cooper Cafritz, she aims to build partnerships that make significant, long-term investments in education, arts and culture, and environmental and neighborhood initiatives. Johnson is a graduate of the University of Chicago and the University of Illinois-Springfield. Born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, she currently resides in Miami and Detroit, where she manages a community orchard and is a contributing writer to Essay’d, a platform spotlighting the Detroit arts landscape.
